Figure study created with charcoal pencil, plaka paint and fixed with shellac (from the back). The drawing was first fixed with shellac before stretching the paper over a stiff surface and then applying the black paint. Stretching the paper over a stiff surface before applying the wet media ensured the paper dried as flatly as possible. There still remains some wrinkling effects in the untouched blank parts of the paper. The piece was then removed from the stiff surface, trimmed and mounted on archival Japanese rice paper (with long aging Artist's Adhesive) to reinforce the papers strength.

In creating this piece, the newsprint paper was stretched over a stiff surface during the paint application. The paper was then removed, trimmed and mounted on Japanese rice paper.

Signature detail. The wrinkling effect of the paper due to the application of wet paint on thin newsprint can be seen in this close up.
