Haven't done a long pose practice session in a long time so it was really fantastic knuckling down to bring this pose through all the nuances that are generally left behind when doing one of my short gesture drawings... Attention was given to sensitive soft edges (with carefully chosen defined accents ). This piece evolved from a modeled study of the chair. Modeled studies focus attention on the feeling of weight of the subject, and I tried to develop this thought process further by getting the viewer to perceive the weight/manner of the departed subject, from foorprints left behind alone... The concept of time & space has always fascinated me and so age old philosophies and scientific theories on the subject have been an almost constant reading companion and theme in my work for many years... Although many of my works have elements of this idea melded in with other varying contexts, this I feel is the first piece that is completely focused on the concept of time alone... Hi there, so this would be the first of a series I'll be painting with a magnifying glass. Called 'The Testy Text' (you probably get what I mean from the magnified text), it sets the tone for the next paintings in the series.. Painted from life alla prima, a very minimalist pallet was used of Cad Yellow & Red, Phthalo Blue, Paynes Gray & of course Titanium White.
For the lettering I used a Sgraffito technique with a sharp black colour pencil.. Everything else was painted with two (000) rounds... Thanks for the visit!.. :) Hi there!... Used a small cake fork for this, so as to maintain a minimalist composition while keeping it balanced with the lone olive!.. Painted alla prima as always from life!.. :)
