Posted 'On the Easel.. ' June 2023: Update: Hi guys, It's been a while since posting the update above.. Since then much has happened. I had a wake up call near the the end of last year, to pay attention to health issues that had been worsening through the course of many years.. Though better now since learning about and addressing the cause, it is an issue that is chronic and more time consuming than I would like, to address.. A parent health issue that has required and that will require much more care time on my part for years to come, has arisen too.. Due to me addressing my own health issues though, I feel much more able and energetic to tackle all this, and still continue to progress with my art practice.. It is part of what has sustained me and is what continues to drive me daily after all.. Thank you so much again to all who have continually supported me even during these down times. Though my focus has been much on improving my health these past few months, I feel ready now to shine my focus back on my creative life again!.. :)

Hi guys! So my last few little paintings have not only varied from my usual subject matter, but also taken me on a journey through introducing more vibrant colour in my artwork. It was an itch that needed to be scratched shall we say, and the practice will invariably help me with colour compositions (even more muted) in the future. Check out the latest WIP blog posts of these pieces below! First off was a lil' cityscape oil (the first I've done as far as I can remember!)
Here's the short WIP post of it's creation.. An Ol' English Pub CityScape & Figure Painting. Next the largest (though still small, shown above) of the three. 'Vegvisir' was not only an experimentation of colour and texture, but also trying out a technique to create a textural design on the support, that can only really be discerned at an angle. Experimenting with Colour and Pattern. Finally, my lil darling 'Watson' gave me the opportunity to try out an even more vibrant, though minimal, palette. Watson' the Cat Wet on Wet Oil Painting. As I write this I'm working on a larger than usual painting, while beating off the strong desire to wander off trying out other ideas that keep popping up in waves of inspiration (I may still succumb....). Creating art is not just about having amazing ideas though, but actually finding a way to bring it into being, and doing the long haul (mostly uninspiring work) of executed it well to its finish!.. Thanks for dropping by guys!!.. :)
Posted 'On the Easel...' around this time... Hiya guys! It's been a while ay!.. First of all if you're a regular visitor, thank you so much for the interest you've shown for my meandering works in progresses. I've really appreciated all the support many of you have shown with personal messages etc.. through the years!..
In my time navigating my art practice online, I've struggled to find a way to balance my online presence with the focus I require to create the works I really want to. Unfortunately I couldn't help the influence of selling online when I started more than 10years ago, like creating smaller works for example. Since I refused to compromise on quality, creating mini versions of the work I wanted to, allowed me to somehow quench the internet's forever demand for the fresh and new. Their streamed down basicness also made it possible to share the nuances of their creation. The simple concepts portrayed required less intense prolonged focus and so the regular updates and posts we have all gotten so used to from instagram, facebook etc. didn't matter so much. I knew I wasn't creating the work I wanted to though and over the last few years I've tried different ways to do just that while still maintaining my online presence as best as possible. One of them was this page, it (I thought) would allowed me to share my work with you guys, while still maintaining some semblance of "privacy" in my mind to focus on my works. However the act of creation is too mercurial, and though I undoubtedly write quick notes in my sketchbooks etc. to help me remember ideas and concepts I come up with, they are half thoughts, incomplete and open ended, allowing my mind to run any which way as I create an artwork. I've found this mental freedom is crucial to the process for me, and unfortunately this fluidity is killed somewhat when pinned down to be made understandable to someone looking in from outside. By clarifying it for others I in effect deadened my own mind somewhat to the creative flow. As you can imagine this would be fatal to any art piece that would require prolonged focus to create. Though I have avoided it as much as I could, this truth for me at least has become clear recently as I've finally been putting full focus on the art I've really always wanted to create, sans the regular instagram etc. or updates here (sorry!) and seen the deep conscious focus that I've been able to attain in creation as a result, that I can't remember having since college (pre internet days)!.. With these positive results I hope you can understand my decision to continue this method of working for now. I really do love sharing all my WIP's with you guys and all your amazing feedback too! Unfortunately I cannot ignore the negative effect sharing in this way has on my way of working. (I have found a quick short vid on my Instagram stories, doesn't seem to hurt!) My daily practice sessions are still ongoing though so you'll probably see me crop up here and there with a new small alla prima painting or drawing once and a while!. Though I may still share WIP's of any smaller works I might do here, you're more likely to see my latest updates on Instagram now-a-days. So do pop on by and give me a follow if you would still like to see a sporadic post from me once and a while!.. :D Thank you again for dropping by guys, you know I really do appreciate it!..
