Hi guys! So with a touch of trepidation I got back to this piece and I'm pretty happy it's turned out just as envisioned!.. The nature of this piece I feel lends itself to personal interpretation so I shy away from clarifying my own inspiration as I would like each observer to find meaning in it for themselves, independent of my own conceptual vision.
Hiya folks!,.. It's been a while hasn't it!. I'm coming out of a difficult year after caring for my dad through his last few months and long slow deterioration. There are no words to describe how it feels to see a loved one go thus... We miss him everyday now even though he had long been a shadow of himself.
Anyways, art has always pulled me through difficult times and I was working on this little print during his final days. I did one set with goldleaf for some artist friends (12 editions) and this set (below in only 8 editions) with silverleaf. I hadn't done any printmaking since my college days so I kept it simple.
This is the first time I've tried gilding a handpulled print and it's a bit tricky to do so, as each piece is supposed to be as identical as possible ( this is a mark of a good printmaker). To get the gilding pattern of each print as close as possible I used a stencil to apply the gilding paste and then continued with the gilding process as usual.
I wanted the silverleaf to be protected though, so a layer of Artist Varnish was applied just to the leaf alone.
These prints have only just been made available on Artfinder so if you're interested in adding one to your collection pop on by - 'Zen Dog' Silverleaf V/E Print .

Had to say adieu to this one today. I was surprisingly sadder than usual to see a piece go. I was quite pleased at successfully achieving just the exact glowing emerald hue I had envisioned for the snake and this was also my first attempt at trying a new crosshatching technique with the oil paint too.. Despite this I could not feel more blessed with whom she is on her way to right now!.. Thank you so much for making a home for two!.. :)

I've been testing out different colour palettes for my figurative work lately 'Twilight' being the latest. I quite like the prussian blue based hues in this one, especially how well it plays off the complementary raw umber in the background.

Haven't done a long pose practice session in a long time so it was really fantastic knuckling down to bring this pose through all the nuances that are generally left behind when doing one of my short gesture drawings...
Attention was given to sensitive soft edges (with carefully chosen defined accents ). Without fiddling with the details of the hand in the foreground, the eye is free to be led up and down the figure.. the perspective enhanced by the barely rendered feet in the distance...
Ok folks, thanks so much for the visit!.. :D
Another favourite of mine I have been holding on to, but the time has come!..
This piece highlights our social and 'anti' economic system which profits and inevitably encourages detrimental effects to our environment and health.
Thanks for dropping by!.. :)
Ok, after more than 3 years from conception to completion, I was really, really reluctant to let this one go. However the time had to come sometime. I love all my pieces and I'd get nowhere just hording all of them. They were meant to be seen and I hope this one finds an uber loving home!..

Thanks for the visit!.. :)
This piece evolved from a modeled study of the chair. Modeled studies focus attention on the feeling of weight of the subject, and I tried to develop this thought process further by getting the viewer to perceive the weight/manner of the departed subject, from foorprints left behind alone...
