Howdy Folks!,.. 'Child of Mars' has finally got its final coat of nice glossy satin varnish!.

I loved experimenting with simultaneous warm and cool lighting effects on the model in this piece, and the composition was somewhat inspired by Euan Uglow's symmetrical minimalist figurative paintings..

Geometric repetition with the figure and throughout the composition was used to create harmony and balance, and I strived to create a tactile and exciting piece with the textured surface and by contrasting flat hues with the high realism of the woman's figure..

This piece is also available as an archival giclee print !

Hidy ho guys.
So if you've been following updates on my 'On the Easel..' page, you'll already be familiar with this little piece, done as a preliminary study for the larger oil I'm currently working on.

Painted on texturally primed canvas, this piece gave me the opportunity to work out design elements I was thinking of adding (the contour crosshatched lines on the figure etc.) as well as solidify the palette I would be using for the larger painting.

Hi guys! So with a touch of trepidation I got back to this piece and I'm pretty happy it's turned out just as envisioned!.. The nature of this piece I feel lends itself to personal interpretation so I shy away from clarifying my own inspiration as I would like each observer to find meaning in it for themselves, independent of my own conceptual vision.

Hiya folks! So 'Midnight Stars has finally been varnished with a lovely beeswax satin finish which really suits the raw canvas base of the painting.
It's also been flipped here (I think it looks great either way though how it is finally displayed will ultimately be up to the final collector).

Had to say adieu to this one today. I was surprisingly sadder than usual to see a piece go. I was quite pleased at successfully achieving just the exact glowing emerald hue I had envisioned for the snake and this was also my first attempt at trying a new crosshatching technique with the oil paint too.. Despite this I could not feel more blessed with whom she is on her way to right now!.. Thank you so much for making a home for two!.. :)

I've been testing out different colour palettes for my figurative work lately 'Twilight' being the latest. I quite like the prussian blue based hues in this one, especially how well it plays off the complementary raw umber in the background.
