More gesture drawings!.. Simple and direct, drawings like these are best done by feeling the gesture of the model in ones own bones as one draws them.

Hidy ho guys! So I got out and got some sun for once, which took all of 15 paces from my door.. haha!! Now I kid, I'm not that bad with the sun thing (not that hard in sunny Malaysia!), this was however a first in a long time at doing an en plein air painting, and the weather sure was ideal!.. Loved how this gesture drawing turned out! SOLD Thanks for dropping by guys!.. :)
p.s Pardon the French! Been trying to incorporate it more in to my everyday speech/writing to strengthen my grasp of the language.. :D These are a few gestures from one of my drawing practice sessions I thought would look awesome as a set together. They could either be hung together or separately to create a harmonious cohesiveness to a living space.
Each was created with charcoal pencil on newsprint mounted on Japanese archival rice paper and measure 8.5 x 11.5 Inches each. Thought I'd add a few of my latest gestures to my shop!.. These were all drawn with Derwent Charcoal Pencil on Newsprint during various practice sessions. :) Hi guys, This is the first little painting I've done of Watson, Surprising since her cuteness seems quite unreal at times.. haha! SOLD Thanks for dropping by! :)
p.s. Read more about how this piece was created at 'Watson' the Cat Wet on Wet Oil Painting' Hiya guys!.. I'd say this one is one of my favs of the 1st weeks challenge that I did.. Using hog bristle brushes, rather than the synthetics used for the others, every brushstroke was deeply pronounced and I tried to take advantage of this by ensuring every stoke would speak to the underlying forms and be texturally appealing with sure gesture. The bleaching white light of the ref image, flattened the models face somewhat. Thus the challenge was to portray this washed out lighting while still bringing dimensionality to the portrait.. This little 4x4" was painted alla prima, using the minimal amount of strokes to express the subject matter.. WIP post at: 'An Ol' English Pub CityScape & Figure Painting'
This piece is also available as an archival giclee print ! SOLD Hi guys! This little gesture was done in three hues - Ivory Black, Burnt Umber and Burnt Sienna on a toned acrylic ground of Ultramarine + either Ivory Black or Raw Umber (I can't recall!)! I tried to apply each stroke deliberately and accurately, so as to ensure an expressive and confident piece, using the minimal amount of strokes to express the form..
The original is a small study ( There are a few WIP pics at 'Ivory Gesture' ) however the best thing about having a really high res great scanner is I can scan really high resolution images of small works like this and make them available as high quality giclees in quite large sizes (Saatchi have Ivory Gesture Prints at sizes up to 34 Inches ! ).. As long as the artwork fits my little over A4 size scanner (or can be scanned in parts, and combined), I can get really superior quality images for all my art prints !.. :D Anyways thanks for dropping by guys! Hope you all are keeping safe and your souls fulfilled ! |
